Electrical Occupations

The Electrical Occupations program offers the skills and theoretical background needed for a variety of careers. The knowledge gained can be applied to residential, industrial, and commercial electrical maintenance and application of electrical systems. Pneumatic theory, AC motors, and controls are also taught in this program. Students completing this program may elect to take the Chambersburg Borough Master Electrician Exam after a required level of field experience.

    COLLEGE CREDITS

    College in the High School – Harrisburg Area Community College

    • Enrollment is at the beginning of each semester to take one or more of the following courses in your CareerTech program.
      • ELOC 153 – Fundamentals of Electricity (4 credits)
      • ELOC 157 – Electrical Wiring I (4 credits)
      • ELOC 172 – National Electric Code (2 credits)
      • IA 201 – Motors & Controls (4 credits)

    Program of Study (POS) Statewide Articulations, SOAR

    • CareerTech will produce the paperwork for each senior whether they are or are not eligible to be exempt from the following credits at the following post-secondary schools. More Information.
    • The following are pending renewal and may or may not be offered by May 2025.
      • Harrisburg Area Community College – 10 credits
      • Johnson College – 9 credits
      • Orleans Technical Institute – .5 credit
      • Rosedale Technical College – 9 to 9.5 credits

    Direct Articulations

    • Saint Francis University, Francis Worldwide – 6 credits for an Associate’s degree, 12 credits for a Bachelor’s degree.
      • 25% tuition reduction

    NOCTI

    • Pass your written assessment to recieve your recommended credit waiver at the Awards Ceremony.
      • 3 credits – Recommended to be awarded in Engineering, General Technology or Introduction to Electrical Power and Transmission Technology. 1 to 2 additional credits may be awarded based on successful completion of the performance component with the written proficiency exam.

  • PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

    Students should be proficient in Algebra I or higher and be reading near grade level.

     

    UNIFORMS

    A CareerTech blue or gray, long sleeve t-shirt is required (no short sleeve). Uniforms may be ordered online or purchased at the school store.  CareerTech hoodies and flannel shirts are not permitted to be worn in shop.

    Jeans or work pants without holes.

    Work boots (steel toe not required)

    This training will help you become a professional tradesman, electrician, lineman, etc.

Dwight Munson

Mr. Munson is a Licensed Master Electrician who has taught at CareerTech for over 15 years. His industry experience includes employment as an Adjunct Professor at Harrisburg Area Community College. Mr. Munson is NCCER certified for core curriculum, electrical curriculum, and industrial maintenance and electrical instrumentation.
