IST is for students who love technology and are looking for a future job with high pay and a robust occupational outlook. The tech sector is booming, and IT occupations are expected to continue to grow over the next decade. Information Systems Technology focuses on the design, implementation, and management of linked systems of computers and peripherals. Included in the program are the studies of computer repair, networking, web design, the internet and intranet (internal network), as well as the foundations of cybersecurity. Students will leave the program with multiple industry certifications and the option to apply what they have learned to credits at a post-secondary institution.

What College Credits can I earn?
IST students can enroll in Penn College of Technology providing the opportunity to earn credits while still attending high school. Alternatively, students may be eligible to earn articulated credits from 17 different PA post-secondary institutions.

A CareerTech blue or gray t-shirt is required. In addition, the following CareerTech items may also be purchased: Polo shirt or zip fleece. Uniforms may be ordered online or purchased at the school store.

Student Organizations:
Students may join the SkillsUSA student organization. This club brings students who share common interests together for an exchange of ideas and the opportunity to work towards a common purpose. Tim Byers
Mr. Byers is a CareerTech alumnus of the Electronics program. He gained over 20 years of industry experience as an Electronics Mechanic at Nike, Hawk, and Patriot missile systems and computers. Mr. Byers has a bachelor’s degree in Workforce Education and Development from Penn State University and a Master of Science degree in Cybersecurity from the University of Maryland Global Campus.
